Why can't I eat spicy food with stomach problems?
1. Stomach irritation
- Spicy foods contain capsaicin (in chili peppers) which can irritate the stomach lining, especially when the stomach is already inflamed and irritated (such as ulcers or acid reflux).
2. Increases stomach acid
- Spicy foods can cause the stomach to produce more acid, which can lead to problems such as:
- Heartburn
- Acid reflux
- Stomach pain
3. Digestive problems can cause bloating
Spicy foods slow down the digestive system for some people, causing discomfort, bloating or gas
4. Causes nausea or vomiting
If you already have stomach problems, spicy foods can make you feel nauseous and in some cases, acid reflux or food poisoning
